"Lomi Lomi is ‘the loving touch, a connection of heart, hands and soul with the source of all life"

Aunty Margaret Machado (1916 – 2009)

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage is truly one of the greatest gifts we can give to our body, mind and spirit. It provides a restful and restorative pause from the modern world and helps the body return and unwind to its innate natural rhythm and harmony. Lomi Lomi uses long wave-like strokes over the body to allow an unwinding effect to take place.

This description only goes so far to describe the powerful transformative effects of Lomi Lomi Massage, also called Hawaiian Massage. It originates from the Hawaiian Islands where it was part of a sacred system of healthcare. This ancient skill was under threat until it was gradually introduced to the West in the early 1900’s. It is now being taught again in Hawaii and worldwide.

I was taught the basics of regular massage whilst in first year in college in Dublin studying Physiotherapy. As first year students we enjoyed this Friday afternoon schedule in the timetable. However there were so many other topics to learn that no further emphasis was placed on this type of bodywork and therapy for the remainder of our college degree. In May 2018 following a number of synchronicities and strong intuitive guidance, I began a training course in Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage under the guidance of a wonderful teacher Louise Kleu McEvoy in Killorglin, Co. Kerry. Even though the massage techniques were important, what surprised me was that the techniques were a small aspect of the healing nature of Lomi Lomi. We were taught Lomi Lomi in the therapeutic way of providing a nurturing, loving and respectful massage treatment which would benefit the client physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

The deep restorative effects of Lomi Lomi to my own wellbeing were immense and I loved giving Lomi Lomi massage under the core principles of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi. It felt for me a mammoth leap in restorative wellness bodywork since my introduction days to massage in college nearly 20 years ago.

I completed my Level 3 Practitioner training in November 2018 and I knew I would be offering this amazing therapy to clients.
